Faculty Tenure Track – 9 Month – Modern and Classical Languages – [Job #999539] – Kent Campus – Kent, OH Opportunity for an Assistant or Associate Professor of Translation Studies. Full-time tenure-track position specializing in Arabic translation and translation-related technologies to begin August 2017. The successful candidate will participate in the development and support of translation distance learning degree programs at the Master's level within the internationally recognized translation program of the Institute for Applied Linguistics, affiliated with the Department of Modern and Classical Languages Studies. Qualifications: Ph.D. required. Record of research or a focused research agenda in Arabic translation, and experience with translation-related technologies are required. Native or near-native proficiency in English and Arabic is required. The successful candidate will develop translation programs in Arabic and be familiar with distance learning pedagogy and platforms. Teaching duties will include specialized courses in Arabic translation (such as scientific, technical and medical translation; commercial, legal and diplomatic translation; and English-Arabic-English translation) as well as translation technology-related courses offered as part of the M.A. in Translation (such as documents in multilingual contexts; terminology and computer applications in translation; software localization; and language project management). Ability to develop and teach upper-level undergraduate courses in Arabic Translation highly desirable.


Faculty Tenure Track – 9 Month – Modern and Classical Languages – [Job #999460] – Kent Campus – Kent, OH Opportunity for an Assistant or Associate Professor of Translation Studies. Full-time tenure-track position to begin August 2017. The successful candidate will support the development of a distance-learning graduate program in translation to complement a face-to-face translation M.A. program currently offered in six language tracks (Arabic, French, German, Japanese, Russian and Spanish) within the internationally recognized translation program of the Institute for Applied Linguistics affiliated with the Department of Modern and Classical Language Studies. Qualifications: Ph.D. required. Record of research or research agenda is highly desirable. Record of research or research agenda is highly desirable. Training and/or experience developing and delivering online courses is required. Experience in teaching translation-related courses, preferable in one of the languages currently offered at the M.A. level, is highly desirable. Native or near-native proficiency in English and one of the languages offered at the M.A. level is required. Strong leadership, collaboration and interpersonal skills are highly desirable, as is experience in the industry. Main responsibilities include developing a distance learning program based on quality matters standards, coordinating and advising instructors in charge of language-specific translations courses, recruiting and leading a team of online instructors, leading curricular discussion and the development of new courses as needed, monitoring course revision cycle, sharing awareness of instructional design issues and adult education learning principles, and maintaining effective relationships with research and instructional faculty in translation.
