DESCRIPTION

 

The College Writing Programs at the University of California, Berkeley invites applications for a pool of qualified temporary instructors to teach courses in the College Writing Programs should an opening arise. Screening of applicants is ongoing and will continue as needed. The number of positions varies from semester to semester depending on the needs of the department. Positions may range from 17% to 100% time during the academic year, while summer appointments are handled on a by-agreement basis.

 

Position titles: Lecturer, Lecturer in Summer Sessions.

 

Job duties: Successful applicants will teach in CWP’s Reading and Composition sequence or other CWP courses in writing, reading, and oral communication. They will have complete responsibility for classes to include teaching in a classroom environment, meeting with students during scheduled weekly office hours and by appointment, and grading student work.

 

Basic qualifications: An MA or equivalent degree by the time of application in one of the following fields: composition studies, rhetoric and composition, digital rhetoric, second- language writing/ESL/applied linguistics, or other closely related field. Three years’ or more experience teaching composition at a college level is also required. Candidates without these qualifications will not be considered.

 

Preferred qualifications: Ph.D. or equivalent.

 

Salary: $53,401-$89,693 annual rate during academic year; by agreement in Summer Sessions.

Applications are typically reviewed in April and May for fall course needs, in September and October for spring course needs, and February and March for summer course needs. The pool will close June 30, 2018; applicants wishing to remain in the pool after that time will need to submit their applications anew.
