Course number and title: - PRT 358H1S Topics in Portuguese Studies

 

Course description: The study of literary texts from various Portuguese-speaking African countries from colonial to post-colonial times. The focus will be on the relationship between literature, politics, cultural aesthetics, national consciousness and independence movements, and the continuous refashioning of African identities in the post-colony.

Class schedule: Wednesday 2-4 p.m.

 

Sessional dates of appointment: January 1 to April 30, 2018

 

Salary: $7,359.07 SL I; $7,498.50 SL1 Long Term; $7,823.85 SL II; $8,185.35 SL III. Please note that should rates stipulated in the collective agreement vary from rates stated in this posting, the rates stated in the collective agreement shall prevail.

 

Minimum qualifications: A Ph.D. degree in a relevant field is required.

 

Preferred qualifications: A Ph.D. degree in a relevant field is required, and University level teaching is desirable. Experience in teaching literature courses required. Candidate must demonstrate evidence of excellence in teaching.



Description of duties: Preparation and delivery of course material; preparation and delivery of assignments and tests; marking of student work and submission of grades; consultation with students; responding to student inquiries, appeals, and petitions; participation and involvement in activities related to the Portuguese program.
