Course number and title: LIN205H5S English Grammar II

 

Course description: This course examines complex methods of sentence construction that will enable a critical analysis of English sentence structure, word and sentence meanings, and language function in communicative contexts. This course is particularly suitable for students who wish to improve their academic writing skills or who wish to teach English.

 

Estimated course enrolment: 375

 

Estimated TA support: 600-650 hours

 

Class schedule: Mondays 9-11:00

 

Sessional dates of appointment: January 1, 2018-April 30, 2018

 

Salary:
Sessional Lecturer I: $7,359.07
Sessional Lecturer II: $7,823.85
Sessional Lecturer III: $8,185.35

Minimum qualifications: Ph.D. is required. The candidate should have a strong background in linguistics, preferably holding a Ph.D. in linguistics or in the area of applied linguistics. Demonstrated excellence in teaching and previous experience teaching a similar course are required.

 

Preferred qualifications: Familiarity with the teaching philosophy/practices within a multi-language department is an asset.

 

Description of duties: Preparation and delivery of course content (*INCLUDES AN ONLINE COMPONENT*); development, administration and marking of
assignments, tests and exams; calculation and submission of grades;
holding regular office hours; supervising TAs (if any) assigned to the course.
