TEACHING ASSISTANT PROFESSOR IN GLOBAL REFUGEE STUDIES

 

At the Department of Culture and Global Studies, the Faculty of Social Sciences, the Copenhagen campus, a position as Teaching Assistant Professor in Global Refugee Studies is open for appointment from 1 February 2018 or as soon as possible after this date. The position is available for a period of 6 years.

 

JOB DESCRIPTION

 

The primary tasks of the position are research and teaching within Global Refugee Studies as well as coordination of the study programme. In terms of research, the successful applicant will be part of the research unit at Global Refugee Studies where his/her analytical focus will be on the relationship between conflict, forced (im)mobility and political and economic structures. To complement existing competencies at the unit, applicants with a specialization in one or several of the following topics will be prioritized:

 

  • Middle-Eastern politics
  • Diaspora theory and analysis
  • Nationalism, ethnicity and religion


In terms of teaching, the position will be associated with the Master’s specialization programme in Global Refugee Studies at the Copenhagen campus. The position may also include teaching and supervision obligations in other programmes under the School of Culture and Global Studies. Applicants who are qualified to teach within other areas of the programmes mentioned should state this in their application.

 

It will also be considered an advantage, but not a prerequisite, that applicants have experience with problem-based learning, which is Aalborg University’s pedagogical model.

 

Research and teaching activities within Global Refugee Studies are conducted in English, and therefore applicants must submit documentation of their English capacity at a professional level.

 

Furthermore, it is a requirement that the applicant has practical experience with running a Master’s programme in terms of coordinating courses, supervision and promoting a study programme to future students and within the university.

 

In terms of personal qualities, the teaching assistant professor is expected to have strong interpersonal skills, and to be able to establish and maintain good relations with researchers and students with different cultural and political backgrounds.

 

The new employee will be associated with the research group in Global Refugee Studies, but may also choose to join an additional research group of his/her own choice.

 

Regular attendance at the Department is required. In addition, the new employee must be prepared to participate actively in all aspects of the day-to-day activities in the Department and in the study programme. Teaching assistant professor


The position of teaching assistant professor is a permanent position with obligation to teaching and related activities within the institution's purpose. The qualification requirements for the position are a Master’s degree or a corresponding degree at equivalent level. Furthermore, a positive assessment of the applicant’s teaching qualifications is required.

  • Complete publication list, marking the attached publications, to be taken into consideration in connection with the assessment. A maximum of five publications may be attached.
  • In case the applicant attaches publications elaborated in collaboration with co-authors, a co-author statement must be enclosed, specifying the applicant’s contribution to the joint work. The co-author statement must be signed by at least one of the co-authors.

  • Copies of relevant diplomas (Master of Svience and PhD)


All applicants will be assessed by an assessment committee. Applicants may subsequently be summoned to an interview and/or trial lecture.

This means that subsequent to the deadline for applications the head of department supported by the chair of the assessment committee will select candidates for assessment. All applicants will be informed whether they will be assessed or not. The selected applicants will be informed of the composition of the assessment committee, and each applicant will have the opportunity to comment on the part of the assessment that applies to the applicant in question. When the employment process has been terminated, a final rejection will be sent to the applicants who are not considered for the position.
