Brief Description
The Department of African Literature is seeking to make an appointment at the rank of Lecturer to start in 2018. The department offers an undergraduate major in the literatures of Africa and the black diaspora, as well as Honours, MA and PhD degrees. Since its founding 34 years ago, the department has established an international profile as a leading centre for postcolonial literary studies.

 

Requirements: Candidates should have teaching experience in the subject at university level, a PhD, and a record of publication in African literatures in English. It is critical that applicants demonstrate an ability to teach two or more African regional literatures, as well as popular culture.

 

Responsibilities: The successful candidate will be required to offer a wide-ranging curriculum across all years of study; teach academic writing to undergraduate students; supervise postgraduate students; be research-active in areas related to the discipline; participate in interdisciplinary research and teaching; carry out administrative duties; and take part in the intellectual and public life of the School and University.
