DESCRIPTION

 

The UCLA Center for Community Learning seeks a temporary lecturer to teach a seminar course in Spring 2018 (Civic Engagement / Food Studies M170SL).

 

Civic Engagement / Food Studies M170SL is an interdisciplinary service-learning course that provides general understanding of access and equity issues related to food chain in Los Angeles. In this course, students will explore social justice issues faced by residents of lower-income communities. Students engage in meaningful work off campus with community partners.

 

UCLA has a diverse student population in one of the more diverse cities in the nation; we particularly seek candidates who have taught similarly diverse students in a major research university.

 

Required Qualifications:


• An earned doctorate from an accredited university
• College-level teaching experience 
• Knowledge and training in food-related equity issues
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills

• Must be capable of delivering high-quality instruction to a diverse student body

 

Preferred Qualifications:


• At least three years of college-level teaching experience, including experience mentoring undergraduates conducting independent research projects 
• Experience teaching students to implement a range of qualitative social science research methods, including participant observation and interviewing
• Familiarity with issues affecting diverse communities in the Los Angeles region
