The Antwerp Research Institute for the Arts (ARIA) is seeking to fill a full-time (100%) vacancy for a collaborator in research funding acquisition and research organization in the area of the arts


The Antwerp Research Institute for the Arts (ARIA) is a collaboration between the University of Antwerp and the Schools of Arts of the Association University & University Colleges Antwerp (Saint Lucas School of Arts Antwerp, the Royal Academy of Fine Arts Antwerp, and the Royal Conservatoire Antwerp). ARIA helps to give shape to the artistic research conducted within the Association. The Institute is specifically responsible for organizing and administering PhDs in the arts.


Job description

  • First and foremost, you are responsible for the organizational and administrative support during the application process of research funds for ARIA (a minimum of € 250,000 per year on average, evaluated after 3 years) and this at both international and national levels (Horizon 2020, ERC, Creative Europe, Flemish Research Council, etc.).
  • You are responsible for the organization and support of research activities by ARIA (organization of international conferences, support of research seminars).
  • You support the further development of an international publication policy for ARIA, including for non-written output.
  • Some service tasks, too, belong to your work package: you are willing to represent the research group internally and externally and you help to coordinate service projects.


Your profile

  • You hold a master’s or doctoral degree in the humanities or social sciences or in the arts.
  • Your research qualities correspond to the policies of the university.
  • You have experience in acquiring funds at an international level and can demonstrate merits in this respect.
  • As a team player you like to sink your teeth into proposals, but you also develop personal initiatives.
  • You have affinity with research in the academic world and in the arts.
  • You feel closely involved with the arts as a cultural branch of society.
  • You have an understanding of cultural and research policies.
  • You have an open attitude, are social, honest, creative, and collaborative.
  • You are multilingual and have a sufficient knowledge of written English to help prepare application files. You can also express yourself in Dutch.
  • You are a born networker and liaisons person and look forward to traveling repeatedly as part of your job.


We offer

  • a contract in accordance with your diploma (master’s or PhD) and with the officially fixed scales of assistant teacher or doctoral assistant for a period of 3 years, with the possibility of renewal after positive assessment;
  • date of appointment: 1 March 2020;
  • a full-time gross monthly salary at the level of assistant teacher ranging from € 3.338,21 - € 5.649,28 or a full-time gross monthly salary at the level of doctoral assistant ranging from € 4.134,93 - € 6.446,00;
  • a dynamic and stimulating work environment.
