Adjunct Assistant Professor: Educational Leadership - Foundations in Learning

The mission of the USC Rossier School of Education is to prepare leaders to achieve educational equity through practice, research and policy. We work to improve learning opportunities and outcomes in urban settings and to address disparities that affect historically marginalized groups. We teach our students to value and respect the cultural context of the communities in which they work and to interrogate the systems of power that shape policies and practices. Through innovative thinking and research, we strive to solve the most intractable educational problems.

The EDL Program seeks to hire an Adjunct Assistant Professor to teach EDUE 702: Foundations in Learning. Course Description The purpose of this course is to support the development of critically conscious leaders who facilitate the learning of children and adults in urban contexts. We believe that critically conscious leaders understand how culture, identity, and power influence learning opportunities for diverse learners. Critically conscious leaders are reflective and understand how their practices influence the outcomes for historically marginalized and minoritized children and adults. The outcomes below reflect the skills essential for effective leaders in learning organizations and that students will be able to do by the end of this course. Learning Objectives By the end of this course, students will be able to: 1. Apply key learning and motivation theories to improve practice in learning organizations. 2. Engage in critically reflective practice through analysis of their learning and motivation and their positionality in a learning context. 3. Apply learning and motivation research to solve problems and promote objectivity, equity, and inclusivity in diverse urban learning contexts. 4. Develop organizational capacity to facilitate learning through the modeling of culturally responsive practices, flexible leadership, and accountability practices. 5. Evaluate and assess programs to analyze learning in context in order to provide effective pedagogy and andragogy for diverse learners. 6. Demonstrate effective skills in group collaboration and oral and written communication.
