Adjunct Faculty in American Sign Language

New York University’s Center for Applied Liberal Arts, a division of the School of Professional Studies, seeks an adjunct American Sign Language (ASL) Instructor to begin in the Spring of 2022. The new hire will teach ASL for Professionals Level 1, and possibly other courses/levels.  Classes meet weekly remotely on Zoom and through NYU’s Learning Management System (Brightspace). 


  • verifiable fluency in American Sign Language.
  • a Master's Degree in ASL, Deaf Studies, Deaf Education, Linguistics, Interpretation, and Translation or a related field.
  • a minimum of 2 years of language instruction experience at the university and/or secondary school level with proven ability to teach in a student-centered, communicative classroom.
  • experience creating syllabi, a sequential course of study, and in locating and selecting suitable authentic materials.
  • a U.S. working visa.
