Adjunct Instructor in Voice

Summary:

The Voice Instructor teaches applied voice as qualified, and assists in teaching a biweekly studio performance class within the School of Fine Arts and Humanities.


Responsibilities:

The faculty member conducts college courses in music for students using a variety of appropriate teaching methods; selects and prepares appropriate repertoire, works with the staff piano accompanist (as necessary), meets all scheduled classes prepared to instruct; prepares syllabi for courses of study; prepares materials to evaluate student progress; reports midterm and final grades; maintains accurate and adequate records; adheres to all institutional policies.


The part-time faculty member is invited to participate in faculty meetings and recruit for the music program.


Essential Duties:
  • Teach courses in applied voice, which may include classical and musical theatre genres
  • Co-teach voice performance classes and present students in recital
  • Prepare syllabi and schedules for each course
  • Develop lesson plans
  • Maintain accurate attendance records
  • Evaluate students
  • Reporting duties including student grade data
  • Procure appropriate materials needed for course instruction
  • Utilize active learning strategies to assist the learner in meeting the course objectives
  • Collaborate with the School’s musical theatre program

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Master’s degree (Voice preferred)
  • Expertise in current vocal pedagogy
  • Performance experience

Desired Qualifications:
  • Experience as a teacher and performer in higher education

Work Environment:

Typical work environment is a classroom, office and/or studio/stage setting requiring normal safety precautions. Work is usually performed during the normal workday, however, occasional early morning, late evening, and weekend work may be required. Noise levels are minimal to moderate and include stage/studio performances with exposure to a moderate level of sound. Short periods of time will be spent outdoors travelling between campus buildings in various weather conditions.


Physical Demands:

Employee must be able to stand or sit for long periods of time, speak, hear, use hands and fingers to handle materials and use computer, feel, and reach with hands and arms. Occasional lifting of up to 10 pounds may be required. Less frequent lifting of more than 10 pounds may be required (moving large musical equipment).
