Purpose and Main Duties

This is an exciting opportunity to teach on our Pre-Sessional courses within Academic English and Language Development - a programme of short courses offered by the College within the Department of Applied Linguistics and Communication. Subject to sufficient student enrolment we are currently looking for 2 or more part-time fixed term Associate Lecturer A's to teach the following non-credit bearing pre-sessional (a) and the following 15 CATS Level 4 modules (b) beginning July 2015 and August 2015 respectively:

a) Academic English Pre-Sessional, 10 weeks

b) Pre-Sessional English for Academic Purposes (Science) Pre-Sessional English for Academic Purposes (General)

You are asked to indicate on your application whether you are interested in teaching a specific Pre-Sessional, or if you wish to be considered for one of the three.


Candidate Requirements

The minimum requirements for selection are listed below:
• Applicants will have a relevant undergraduate degree or equivalent qualification.
• A recognised English language teaching qualification such as DELTA or DTEFLA.
• Relevant teaching experience in the field of English for Academic Purposes (EAP) and experience in teaching on pre- and in-sessional courses for postgraduates.
• A good understanding of the needs of international students and an ability to relate well to their individual needs and engage their interest and enthusiasm.
• Experience of teaching English language to adult students from a range of language backgrounds and varying levels of ability.
• Experience of/or willingness to develop a wide range of teaching and assessment methods.
• Demonstrably effective communication, interpersonal and presentation skills across a range of relevant contexts.
• A working knowledge of IT including Word, Excel, email and experience of a virtual learning environment such as Blackboard or Moodle.
• Able to work both as part of a team and independently as appropriate.
• Willing to engage in reflective practice.
Please note: candidates need to demonstrate competence or significant potential in all areas. 
In addition, it is desirable that candidates have:
• Masters in TESOL/Applied Linguistics
• A Teaching Qualification e.g. PGCHE

Remuneration: Grade 7 of the College’s London Pay Scale which is starting rate £45.54 per hour (inclusive of holiday pay) for the non-credit bearing pre-sessional and £56.93 per hour (inclusive of holiday pay) for the credit bearing pre-sessional for contact hours worked.
The salary quoted above is based on an hourly rate dependent upon length of serve with the College. This hourly rate is based on the starting point of Grade 7 and is inclusive of a ‘Duties Related to Teaching Multiplier’ which covers preparation; teaching, administration, assessment marking and other examining duties in connection with the course. The College’s London Pay Scale includes a consolidated Weighting/Allowance which applies only to staff whose normal contractual place of work is in the Greater London area. This appointment is subject to a probationary period of 18 months.
