Salary range: Lecturer A: starting at £34,576 and rising to £37,768 per annum. 
                      Lecturer B: starting at £38,896 and rising to £46,414 per annum.

Description

The School of English at the University of Sussex wishes to appoint a lecturer in Global Englishes from 01 September 2016. She/he will possess expertise in aspects of English’s linguistic and sociocultural uses in the current global environment.  We seek a scholar whose research and teaching embraces interdisciplinary approaches and whose work demonstrates the potential to build research impact outside the academy.  We particularly welcome applicants with interests in: language ideologies/attitudes in post-colonial contexts; language hybridity; language and migration; diaspora writings; language and gender.

The successful candidate will possess a completed doctorate in English Language or Literature or Linguistics or a related subject and have teaching experience at least to undergraduate level.  You will possess high quality research publications in the area of Global Englishes that indicate your ability to achieve international distinction in your specialist area.

The Lecturer will contribute teaching to: the BA English Language & Linguistics; the BA English Language and Literature; the BA English; the MA Applied Linguistics.  You will help to develop teaching which bridges the language and literature interests of the School.  In addition to expertise in your specialised field, we notably welcome candidates with knowledge of the history of English and sociolinguistics more generally. You will also participate in Sussex’s vibrant research culture.
