Professor in Technical Science Education with focus upon education within the subject of engineering

KTH Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm is the largest and oldest technical university in Sweden. No less than one-third of Sweden’s technical research and engineering education capacity at university level is provided by KTH. Education and research spans from natural sciences to all branches of engineering and includes Architecture, Industrial Management and Urban Planning. There are a total of 12,400 full year students at first and second levels, almost 1,900 active (at least 50 per cent) research students and 5,100 employees.

The School of Education and Communication in Engineering Science was formed in 2011. Our mission is to develop an academic environment in the fields of Educational Science and Technical/Scientific Communication and Learning. Within our school approximately 150 employees serve. Subject description

Technical science education is an interdisciplinary area. The subject includes engineering education as a key pillar in order to understand how engineering courses are to be conducted in the best possible ways, to satisfy student learning effectively as well as to attract more students to engineering courses and to increase student flow.

Duties

Responsibilities include development, planning, implementation and leadership of research within technical science education as well as participation in the development of curricula, teaching at the undergraduate, graduate and doctoral levels. Management tasks on behalf of the ECE School are also included in the position.

Eligibility

In order to be employed as a professor it is necessary that the candidate has demonstrated academic and educational skills.

 Grounds for assessment

 It is of the highest importance that the applicant

  • Has documented academic skills in engineering-subject education.
  • Has documented teaching skills in engineering-subject education.
  • Has demonstrated special skills in developing and managing activities and staff, including knowledge of diversity and equality issues with particular focus on gender equality.
  • Has experience of international collaboration in the subject field.

 It is of second highest importance that the applicant

  • Has potential to contribute to the building of a new academic environment as well as generate external funding within this area.
  • Has the ability to interact with society and inform about research and development.
  • Has good administrative skills.

 It is also important that the applicant

  • Has experience of interdisciplinary research projects.
