Job Description Summary: 
The College of Education is currently seeking applicants for the position of Assistant Professor of Special Education in the Department of Curriculum and Instruction. Curriculum and Instruction houses elementary, early childhood, reading, special education, educational diagnostician, and educational technology. Faculty in the department are primarily responsible for the teaching/learning process and will also participate in the necessary operations of the institution. This is a tenure track position. 

Minimum Qualifications: 
Tenure-track faculty members in the rank of assistant professor shall hold the earned doctorate or other terminal degree approved by the University and recognized by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools as appropriate to the academic area they serve. In addition, they shall have demonstrated ability in the discipline and show clear promise of teaching excellence as evidenced in evaluation by peers, department head, and college dean; demonstrate continuing scholarly contribution beyond that required for completion of the terminal degree; and document yearly progress of professional achievement in teaching, scholarship, and service. Teachers of record must possess minimum Southern Association of Colleges and Schools credential standards which normally include a Master's degree with 18 graduate semester credit hours in the subject area or suitable approved justification. 

Earned doctorate in special education, and/or curriculum and instruction with 18 graduate hour in special education (ABD status may be considered as long as all degree requirements, including dissertation, defense of dissertation, and comprehensive examinations, have been successfully completed by time of appointment). 

Teacher certification and at least 5 years of successful classroom teaching in special education or inclusion settings. 

Knowledge and experience with public school instructional programs, instructional strategies and "best practices"; classroom management techniques; integration of technology as a student learning tool; interdisciplinary planning and instruction; problem-based learning; and PK-16 initiatives and collaboration. Effective communication skills. Must possess the ability to work as an integral part of an instructional and professional learning community team as well as demonstrate a strong record of teaching, scholarship, and service. 

Employment responsibilities include sites in Stephenville and outreach campuses in Fort Worth and Waco. Teach graduate and undergraduate courses in special education and professional educator preparation; work with diverse populations, advise students; supervise populations, advise students; serve on graduate committees; supervise field experiences; serve on departmental, college, and/or university committees; supervise field experiences; work with public school/university initiatives, and assume other teaching and professional responsibilities as assigned; may be required to teach distance learning courses at night and on weekends as needed. 

Males, age 18 through 25, must be properly registered with the Selective Service System to be eligible for hire. This position is designated as a security sensitive position and requires a satisfactory criminal history background check.
