Associate Lecturer in Language and Study Skills

The International Pathway College seeks to appoint two English Language Teaching professionals to take a leading role in setting up new programmes and carrying them forward at this exciting stage of the new College’s development. The IPC will provide new routes for non-European Union students to access the transformational higher education programmes of the University of York. The IPC will offer high quality programmes designed, academically led, taught and managed by the University.

The IPC will admit its first cohort of students in September 2016. This is an exciting opportunity for outstanding candidates to join the IPC Director and Subject Area Leads in establishing the academic and student experience of the College.

You will act, in the first instance, as a programme coordinator in English Language and Study Skills for either the Pre-Masters and/or the Foundation Certificate. Reporting to the Subject Area Lead, with whom you will cooperate in planning programme content and organisation, you will also work closely with programme Tutors to ensure effective course delivery. Each programme will be presented twice during the academic year and will run for three terms. It is anticipated that in excess of 250 full-time students will be accommodated in the initial year with greater numbers in the future. Your responsibilities will include materials development, coordinating teams of Tutors, the setting and marking of assessments, in addition to teaching classes and conducting tutorials.

Key requirements

  • Relevant Teaching Diploma, e.g. Cambridge ESOL DELTA, Trinity Dip TESOL or a PGCE with post 16 ELT specialism.
  • Demonstrable experience in English Language Teaching including some experience of English for Academic Purposes.
  • Evidence of successful planning and designing of teaching material.
  • Experience of conducting assessments for academic awards or qualifications.
