A tenure track post of postdoctoral researcher, university researcher or associate professor in early childhood education

The University of Tampere has adopted a tenure track system that complements its four-stage career model for teaching and research staff. The purpose of the tenure track system is to encourage motivated and talented teaching and research staff to pursue their academic career at the University of Tampere and to commit themselves to the university. An individual being recruited to the tenure track has the opportunity to be promoted to a permanent position of professor in the discipline in question.

The School of Education at the University of Tampere invites applications for tenure track post in early childhood education. A post of associate professor or university researcher will be filled for a fixed term of five years, from 1 January 2017 to 31 December 2021 or a post of postdoctoral researcher will be filled for a fixed term of three years, from 1 January 2017 to 31 December 2019.

The applicant may apply for several levels of the tenure track system.

A person appointed as an associate professor must have

1. an appropriate doctoral degree
2. merits in research activities in the field of early childhood education
3. merits in teaching that is based on research
4. demonstrated ability to plan research projects and apply for research funding actively
5. merits in social influence
6. good oral and written command of English

The salary for an associate professor is based on the University Salary System’s pay scale for teaching and research staff and the initial requirement level 7. In addition to the requirement level component, the successful applicant will be paid a personal work performance component.

A person appointed as a university researcher must hold:

1. an appropriate doctoral degree
2. a track record of scientific research
3. the teaching skills needed in the post
4. the ability to lead a research group and successfully apply for external funding
5. a track record of research activities in the field of early childhood education
6. merits in teaching that is based on research
7. merits in social influence
8. good oral and written command of English

The salary for a university researcher is based on the University Salary System’s pay scale for teaching and research staff and the initial requirement level 6. In addition to the requirement level component, the successful applicant will be paid a personal work performance component.

A person appointed as a postdoctoral researcher must hold

1. an appropriate doctoral degree
2. the ability to carry out independent scientific work
3. the teaching skills needed in the post
4. the ability to perform independent scientific work in the field of early childhood education, which is evidenced as active publishing
5. academic teaching skills
6. good oral and written command of English

The salary for a postdoctoral researcher is based on the University Salary System’s pay scale for teaching and research staff and the initial requirement level 5. In addition to the requirement level component, the successful applicant will be paid a personal work performance component.

Studies in university pedagogy and other pedagogy, being active in research networks and international activities can also be considered in each post when assessing the merits of applicants.

The post will have a trial period of four months.
