The Department of French seeks a pool of qualified temporary instructors to teach lower division undergraduate courses in the area of English Reading and Composition should openings arise.


The pool will remain in place for two calendar years; those interested in remaining in the pool beyond that time must reapply. Positions will be part-time, renewable, non-tenure track.

Typically the Department reviews applications for fall teaching in March and April, and applications for spring teaching in October and November. The final date for applicants will be May 22, 2017. The number of positions varies from semester to semester, and appointments may be renewable based on need, funding and performance.


General Duties:


Reading and Composition courses in the French Department are taught in English and focus on the development of analytic writing. They typically involve reading and discussing French texts that have been translated into English.


Minimum Basic Qualifications: MA degree (or equivalent) by the time of application.


Additional Qualifications (by start date): Experience teaching college composition which is required. Native or near-native command of English is required by the start date.


Preferred Qualifications: PhD (or equivalent) and relevant college-level teaching experience in French or English. In-depth familiarity with French literature is strongly preferred.


Proof of Teaching experience and proof of degree will be required if hired for the position. If the department solicits letters of reference for the finalists the following is applicable:

Salary commensurate with education and teaching experience. Starting minimum full-time equivalent salary is $49,012.00.
