Junior Professorship for Philosophy of the Middle Ages

The incumbent shall, in research and teaching, represent the philosophy of the Middle Ages with a special focus on the Latin history of science. This shall take place in close collaboration with the Academy project Averroes (Ibn Rušd) and the Arabic, Hebrew and Latin reception of Aristotelian natural philosophy. Expertise concerning text edition is thus among the requirements for the position. Experience in collaborating in international research projects is also expected. The junior professorship will have its own resources within one of the biggest international research institutes for the Philosophy of the Middle Ages and will work closely together with the director of the Thomas-Institute as well as with the directors of the Averroes edition.

 

In the third year after the appointment there will be an interim evaluation. On the basis of this evaluation, the contract may be renewed for three more years. The teaching load is two semester hours in both qualification phases.

 

Applicants will be hired in concordance with § 36 of the University Law of the State of North-Rhine Westphalia.
