School of Arts and Social Sciences


Established by the Government in 1989, The Open University of Hong Kong (OUHK) has five academic units, namely the School of Arts & Social Sciences, Lee Shau Kee School of Business & Administration, School of Education & Languages, School of Science & Technology, and the Li Ka Shing Institute of Professional & Continuing Education. Through them, we provide full-time and part-time programmes at undergraduate, post-graduate, and sub-degree levels.



Today we have over 9,500 full-time and 10,000 part-time students in the four Schools at the OUHK with about 220 programmes of studies. In addition, there are about 2,500 full-time/part-time students studying in our extension arm. The OUHK spirit is a culmination of a relentless pursuit of academic excellence and a creative approach to learning and teaching. Reaching out to our next generation and across the borders through advanced web technologies has been our principal goal in the past years.

Duties


The appointee(s) as Associate Professor II or Assistant Professor will be responsible for, and those as Lecturer or Teaching Assistant will provide assistance to, the planning, development, coordination and delivery (including classroom and/or studio teaching) of courses in Creative Writing and Film Arts (Creative Writing, Film and Literature, Film Studies, Film/TV Production):


“Concepts of Art Direction and Set Design”
“Creative Writing Workshop”
“Digital Video Production Workshop: Short Film”
“Digital Video Production Workshop: Advertisement”
“Digital Video Production Workshop: Television”
“The Art of Film Postproduction”
“The Art and Culture of Chinese-language Cinemas”.


The appointee(s) as Associate Professor II or Assistant Professor will be expected to undertake/engage in academic research and/or creative production activities. He/she will also be responsible for programme administration/development. The appointee(s) as Lecturer or Teaching Assistant will undertake classroom teaching in related disciplines and assist in programme administration/development.



Appointee(s) at all levels will be expected to participate in School/University activities and services.



Requirements

Applicants for the Associate Professor II post should normally have an earned doctorate in a relevant discipline with relevant teaching/professional experience (preferably including programme and course administration). A record of research and peer-reviewed publications, involvement in professional and community services & activities are also required. Teaching experience with an interdisciplinary approach will be an advantage. They should also be forward thinking in terms of programme development, familiar with the industrial practices, and knowledgeable about local and international educational standards in the professions. Those with less experience will be considered for the post of Assistant Professor. Established practising artists with a strong record of experience in creative work and research but without a doctorate will be considered for the post of Senior Lecturer.



Applicants for the Lecturer post should have a higher degree in a related discipline. Relevant teaching/professional experience is required.



Applicants for the Teaching Assistant post should have a recognized degree, preferably a higher degree, in a related discipline. Relevant teaching/professional experience is preferred.



A good command of English and Chinese (preferably including Putonghua) is a must for posts at all levels.



Terms of Appointment


Successful candidate(s) will be appointed on a full-time fixed term contract. Fringe benefits will include annual leave, medical & dental benefits, life insurance coverage and gratuity, where applicable.
