The School of Communication is now inviting application for the following position:


Senior Lecturer / Lecturer (PR340/16-17)


The appointee should have an excellent and appropriate academic background in one or more of the following academic areas: new media communication, data visualisation and social network analysis. Specifically, the appointee is expected to have the following specialties:


  • Proficiency in Python or R, and experience with its machine learning and data visualisation libraries.
  • Proficiency in HTML / CSS / Javascript and web-based visualisation.
  • Experience with open source big data platforms including Hadoop, Spark, GraphLab, Storm and ELK.
  • Experience with cloud platforms like AWS, Azure and OpenStack.
  • Experience of product development in media industry and lifecycle management of Internet products; knowledge of media business model is a plus.
  • Proven data journalism experience, especially award winning publication, is a plus.


Applicants should possess a relevant Master's degree. Teaching experience in one or more of the above listed areas is preferred. The appointee is expected to commence duty as soon as possible.


Rank and salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
