Salary Range: $61,638 - $106,853 (based on relevant educational qualifications and experience)


Sheridan faculty provide academic leadership to programs and courses within their areas of expertise and contribute to a learning-centred environment,

where students can develop to their full potential. They also contribute to Sheridan, Faculty and program excellence by collaborating on a variety of initiatives

such as new program development, applied research and alternative delivery strategies. Faculty ensure students are aware of course and program learning outcomes,

learning strategies and evaluation techniques, through providing individual tutoring, academic counselling and evaluating student progress/achievement within

assigned courses.


The successful candidate will teach students in our Art Fundamentals program and will demonstrate the ability to teach figure drawing within the context of both

traditional and contemporary art and design practice at the introductory level. The successful candidate will also show an awareness of the function of life drawing

in the fine art, illustration, animation and commercial design industries. Teach the elements and principles of drawing and composition using traditional and

contemporary methods and materials.


Specific Responsibilities:

  • Ensuring that program and course curricula are current, relevant and reflective of best practices within the relevant professional/program disciplines as part of a curriculum team

  • Defining, evaluating and validating learning outcomes for courses and programs

  • Creating an effective environment for applied learning which accommodates students’ diverse cultural and educational backgrounds, experiences and learning styles

  • Designing appropriate strategies and tools for facilitating and assessing student learning that are invitational and reflective of best practices in teaching and learning

  • Developing appropriate strategies and tools to assess student performance that are consistent with the learning outcomes of the course and address multiple learning styles

  • Developing multi-media materials and alternative delivery strategies, and incorporating appropriate educational technologies into the applied learning process



  • Master’s degree in a related field of study preferred;

  • Five years’ related professional experience in visual art or a related field;

  • Knowledge of traditional drawing theory including the fundamental principles of anatomy, proportion, contour, gesture, composition and perspective;

  • Knowledge of art history and contemporary practice related to drawing;

  • Experience in teaching and curriculum development at the post-secondary level or equivalent experience as a trainer in business or industry preferred;

  • Strong network of contacts with other professionals, associations and employers;

  • Excellent communications and interpersonal skills;

  • Demonstrable ability to convey the conceptual and applied aspects of knowledge to a broad range of students;

  • Committed to excellence in teaching and learning and to working within a team environment.
