3 Tenure-Track Positions in Education Queen’s University Canada



The Faculty of Education at Queen’s University invites applications for three Tenure-track faculty positions.  Two positions are at the rank of Assistant Professor with specializations in 1) Evaluation in Educational Contexts and 2) Multiliteracies.  One position is at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor with specialization in the area of 3) Exceptional Learners.  All three positions have a preferred starting date of July 1, 2018.


Candidates must have a PhD or equivalent degree completed at the start date of the appointment. The main criteria for selection are academic and teaching excellence. The successful candidate will provide evidence of high quality scholarly output that demonstrates potential for independent research leading to peer assessed publications and the securing of external research funding, as well as strong potential for outstanding teaching contributions at both the undergraduate and graduate levels, and an ongoing commitment to academic and pedagogical excellence in support of the Faculty’s programs. Candidates must provide evidence of an ability to work collaboratively in an interdisciplinary and student-centred environment, and must demonstrate knowledge of teacher education and familiarity with the context of schooling and schooling systems in Canada. The successful candidate will be required to make substantive contributions through service to the Faculty, the University, and the broader community. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.



1)    Evaluation in Educational Contexts

The successful candidate must have an academic profile centred on research, practices and policies in educational evaluation with respect to educational systems, programs, personnel or learners.  This profile will include: 1) a thorough understanding of relevant evaluation theories; 2) knowledge and experience with educational evaluation processes and practices; and; 3) a developed or emerging program of research focused on using and furthering current and developing evaluation practices and theories. 


2)    Multiliteracies

The successful candidate must have an academic profile centred on practice and research in multiliteracies, meaning 1) the ways in which literacy is a social practice shaped by context, culture, history, etc.; and 2) the expansion of literacy from reading and writing alphabetic text to embrace multimodal forms of communication and understanding made possible by technology and new media.  It is expected that the successful candidate will contribute to one or more of the content areas: Primary/Junior language arts, Secondary English, Reading Education, and/or Literacy in multilingual and multicultural contexts.  Teaching experience in elementary and/or secondary schools is a requirement.


3)    Exceptional Learners

The successful candidate must have an academic profile centred on practice and research in learning exceptionalities, including 1) knowledge and experience with school-based special education services and classroom-based adaptations that support a range of inclusionary approaches; 2) knowledge of the cognitive and/or neuropsychological underpinnings for a wide range of exceptional populations; 3) understanding of identification and diagnostic criteria, connecting assessment practices to individual and group adaptations; and 4) selecting/implementing evidence-based supports for students with exceptionalities.
