Faculty Open Position

2. Position and Number of Positions: Associate Professor (tenure position), one (1)

3. Date of Commencement of Employment: April 1, 2018.

4. Field of Specialization: Modern and Contemporary British Studies, with Culture and
Cultural History as the main areas of research

5. Courses to Teach:

Undergraduate level (general education courses): Communication I,Ⅱ,Ⅲ, Literature
and Society of the English-speaking Countries, etc.

Undergraduate level (discipline-specific courses): British Society, Seminar in British
Society, etc.

Graduate level (master’s programs): British Culture, Seminar in Integrated Arts and
Sciences, Special Studies, etc.

Graduate level (doctoral programs): Seminar in Area Studies, etc.

* In addition to the courses listed above he or she may be asked to teach general
education courses and/or discipline-specific courses in other undergraduate and
graduate schools.

6. Application Requirements:

Applicants must satisfy all of the following requirements;

(1) PhD or equivalent academic achievements in the above area of specialization
required; relevant teaching and research experience.

(2) Be able to supervise doctoral students in thesis preparation.

(3) Have sufficient Japanese ability to participate in administrative affairs.

(4) Be able to teach classes and supervise students in Japanese and English.

All of these documents may be in either English or Japanese. In addition, applicants
are requested to submit the documents (1)~(5), (7) in Word 2007/2010/2013 or PDF
files on a CD-ROM, or a USB memory stick, in addition to the hardcopies outlined

10. Selection Procedures

The overall screening process will take about four months starting from the
application deadline.

(1) Applicants in the pre-final screening stage may be required to come to Hiroshima
University for an interview. Face-to-face interviews in Japanese and English and
teaching demonstrations in Japanese and English will be scheduled on campus in
the final stages. Please note that no travel expenses will be provided.

11. Salary, etc.

(1) The monthly salary system or annual salary will be applied to successful candidates.
(Regulations Concerning Salaries of Hiroshima University Faculty Members will be
applied. )

(2) Successful candidates may be reimbursed for travel expenses incurred for the trip
they make to assume their post from their home or former place of work to the new
place of work, in accordance with the relevant regulations of Hiroshima University.

12. Evaluation

We conduct individual performance evaluations for all Hiroshima University faculty
members after their employment, numerically rate their performance, and consider
their evaluation results in their treatment.

13. Miscellaneous
