Faculty Open Position

In accordance with the provisions of Article 8, “Special Provisions of Measures
Pertaining to Women Workers” of the Equal Employment Opportunity Law for Men and
Women, the recruitment will be limited to female researchers in order to actively increase
the current low ratio of female faculty members.

1. Affiliation (Appointment): Academy of Hiroshima University (Department of British,
American, and European Languages and Literatures, and Linguistics, Graduate School
of Letters)

2. Position and the number of openings: Professor or Associate professor, one (1)

3. Commencing date of employment: April 1st, 2018

4. Field of specialization: French Language and Literature

(Including comparative literature and comparative studies of culture with a
French/Francophone emphasis)

5. Teaching responsibilities

 Undergraduate level (general education courses): ‘Intensive French’, etc.

 Undergraduate level (discipline specific courses):

‘Intermediate course in French language’, ‘Advance course in French language’,
‘Seminar in Contemporary French Literature’ or ‘‘Seminar in Modern French
Literature’, or ‘Seminar in Comparative Study of Japanese and French Cultures’ etc.

 Graduate level (master’s programs):

‘Study on French Literature’ , ‘Special Research Tutorial I’ etc

 Graduate level (doctoral programs): ‘Special Research Tutorial II’, etc.

* In addition to the courses listed above, he or she may be asked to teach other general
education courses and/or discipline specific courses in other department(s) and graduate

6. Qualifications

Applicants must satisfy all of the following requirements:

(1) Hold a doctorate or an equivalent degree by the time the appointment begins and
more than one book (monograph) published or more than published ten academic
papers (including more than three refereed papers)

(2) Have experience in teaching French language or French literature

(3) Native speaker of French, or non-native speakers of French who have native-level
proficiency in French

* Some proficiency in the Japanese language to perform duties is preferable.

(8) Statement of intent (Please describe your interests in teaching and research in
approximately 700 words in French, should you take this position.)

12. Evaluation

We conduct individual performance evaluations for all Hiroshima University faculty
members after their employment, numerically rate their performance, and salary and
benefits are commensurate with performance indicators.
