At the Department of Culture and Global Studies, Faculty of Humanities, Aalborg University, a position as lecturer in modern English language science is available for occupation from 1 February 2018 or as soon as possible.




The main tasks of the job are research in English language and teaching widely within the language dimension of English education. Applicants must have a solid knowledge of the modern language science disciplines and modern English language; In addition, research in modern English language at lecturer level within one or more of the following areas should be documented: sociolinguistics, stylistics, discourse studies, cognitive linguistics, functional grammar, applied linguistics or modern translation science.


Teaching, the position is primarily related to the bachelor and master's degree program in English, but it may also include teaching assignments at other programs under the School of Culture and Global Studies, including the Master's Program in Culture, Communication and Global Studies and the Bachelor's degree in Language and International Studies - English. In addition to the applicant's own research area, the position includes teaching in key English-language disciplines (grammar, phonetics, phonology, translation and version, textual vision, written presentation, oral language proficiency), general linguistics, stylistics and discourse analysis, as well as project guidance in these areas.Furthermore, the applicant is expected to be able to develop and master the use of cutting-edge digital teaching materials and forms.

Teaching, guidance and examination at Aalborg University's English courses are conducted in English, and thus the candidate is expected to master English at a high academic level. Applicants must also be able to guide in and judge written and oral presentation and language proficiency in English. Furthermore, it is assumed that Danish is mastered to an extent that enables the student to teach Danish students in the comparative language disciplines of English education (translation and version, grammar, phonetics and phonology) and, in addition, to incorporate comparative aspects of language teaching as well as to teach Danish on other programs. Since problem-based learning (PBL) is the central educational model of Aalborg University, it is an advantage, but not a prerequisite if the applicant has experience with PBL.


Applicants are expected to have strong interpersonal competencies and to be able to participate in teaching, planning and research collaboration with colleagues. In addition, applicants must be able to establish and maintain good relations with researchers with different cultural and political backgrounds.


The new employee will be affiliated with the Institute's research group in Languages and Linguistics, with the possibility of associating with other research groups at their discretion.


Daily attendance is expected at the Institute. The employee must also be prepared to participate actively in all aspects of the day-to-day work of the department and the education programs, including in the management of administrative tasks. A lecturer's position is an indefinite position with a commitment to research and teaching. To some extent, other tasks may be established by the university.


It is assumed that applicants to the directorate have research qualifications equivalent to the level that can be achieved on the basis of a satisfactorily completed appointment period as an assistant professor, researcher or post.doc, but which may also be achieved otherwise. Applicants are required to have documented scientific production at international level. In addition, it is assumed that applicants have received supervision and pedagogical qualification and have received a positive written assessment of their educational qualifications.

Assessment of candidates for the position is done by an expert assessment committee. Applicants can subsequently be invited to a conversation and / or trial lecture.
