Department Description
Wits Music is one of South Africa’s most innovative higher education music departments and is distinctive in being the only university music department in Africa to be part of a School of Arts that includes television and film, digital arts, drama, fine arts, as well as arts, culture and heritage studies divisions: www.wits.ac.za/wsoa.

Brief Description
The School is seeking to make an appointment from 1 February 2017 (or as soon as possible thereafter) in the following area, and we strongly encourage applicants from the designated groups.




The incumbent’s primary area of teaching experience and qualifications should be in the area of Performance Studies, with the successful candidate’s instrument specialisation preferably being voice, piano or jazz guitar. The appointee will ideally have knowledge of and ability to teach South African/pan-African repertoire.


Duties: The core duties will be to teach undergraduate solo and ensemble performance in learning environments including individual tuition, group practical classes and ensemble classes; teach aural skills; and supervise graduate performance studies students. S/he will be expected to be responsible for appropriate administrative roles within the Music Division and the School. If the succesful candidate is a pianist, duties may also include accompanying (of classical, jazz and musical theatre students).


Qualifications and Experience:
A master’s degree, university teaching experience and evidence of industry experience.
