Lancaster Institute for the Contemporary Arts at Lancaster University is seeking to enhance its already strong national and international profile of excellence, and is expanding as part of a programme of investment by the University by appointing a new Lecturer in Design (Grade 7 or 8).


The Lectureships are open to candidates with research interests in design who can also contribute to contemporary debates in related fields. You will be expected to teach to undergraduate courses in design and develop collaborative research networks both within, and beyond the University.


Lancaster University has recently established a joint institute with its highly ranked partner Beijing Jiaotong University (BJTU). The campus, called Lancaster University College - Beijing Jiaotong University, is located in Weihai in the Shandong province in China. We wish to appoint a post at the lecturer level, to collaborate with this key strategic partner in China. Key responsibilities will include:


  1. Delivering up to two visits of 10 weeks duration each teaching at the Weihai campus every year; 
  2. Contributing to the internationally-leading research output of the Department; 
  3. Engaging with the administration and day-to-day running of the Department.


You should be able to demonstrate potential research links into our existing strengths in design theory, design management and strategy, service design, product design, digital design, or design for sustainability. You will be a member of the research centre ImaginationLancaster, and you will be expected to pursue a strong research agenda and produce outputs at a level appropriate for submission to the Research Excellence Framework (REF) 2021 and beyond.


You will play a role in undergraduate teaching and curriculum development, and where appropriate contribute to postgraduate teaching and have relevant administrative skills.
