DESCRIPTION

 

The UCLA Disability Studies Program unit seeks a temporary lecturer for Spring 2018 to teach a upper division undergraduate course in the Disability Studies program.

 

The Disability Studies 101W course ask students to create a critical framework for understanding concept of disability from sampling of disciplinary perspectives. This course is organized around the central tension in disability studies -- between disability as lived subjective experience that is both individual and communal, and disability as objective, medical, legal, and sometimes stigmatized category. Students are encouraged to make connections between units and to create their own perspectives on disability in field that defines itself by how it changes.

 

UCLA has a diverse student population in one of the more diverse cities in the nation; we particularly seek candidates who have taught similarly diverse students in a major research university.

 

Required Qualifications:


• An earned doctorate from an accredited university
• College-level teaching experience
• Knowledge and training within the field of disability studies
• Experience in teaching writing and composition

 

Preferred Qualifications:


• At least three years of college-level teaching experience
• Distinguished record of research
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Must be capable of delivering high-quality instruction to a diverse student body
