At the Department of Historical Studies, a 100 per cent position is published as senior lecturer in older history (before 1750) from 01.07.2018 - 30.06.2022.


Information about the department and the position: 

Department of Historical Studies is part of the Faculty of Humanities at NTNU and is located at Dragvoll. The institute currently has 31 permanent scientific staff and 25 fellows / postdoc. The department is responsible for the following programs: Bachelor and Master of Archeology, Bachelor and Master of History, Bachelor and Master of Cultural Heritage Management, Bachelor and Master of Classical Subjects, Bachelor and Master of European Studies and 5-year integrated lecturer master in history. More information about the institute's professional profile can be found at


The position involves varied teaching assignments on the bachelor and master program in history. Important assignments will be lectures and seminars, group teaching, supervision of exercises, and work related to the organization and supervision of a bachelor assignment. Teaching tasks on the department's other programs can also be calculated. 

NTNU focuses heavily on new learning and evaluation methods. Experience and motivation for work in this area will be emphasized. Varied work on the operation of the history program, such as teaching planning, curriculum and quality assurance, must also be considered.


Eligibility requirements:

  • Masters Degree in History with Theme from Older Time (Before 1750)
  • broad knowledge in history
  • experience of teaching in the history subject at university or college level
  • personal fitness and motivation for the position


When assessing the applicants, emphasis will be placed on:

  • Professional competence and teaching experience in older history
  • competence in medieval history, and especially the Middle Ages history, will count positively
  • Publishing that shows experience with source work and historical analysis will also count positively
  • educational qualifications and ability to inspire students
  • good cooperative skills.
  • The teaching and instructional language is Norwegian or another Scandinavian language. Language skills must be documentable.

Salary and employment: 

position is paid as a senior lecturer, position code 1009, with a minimum annual salary. 412.200, -. The person who is added will normally be paid from kr. 412,200, - to kr. 537,700, - per year depending on qualifications. From gross salary, 2 per cent of deposits are deducted from the National Pension Fund.


It is a prerequisite that the person being added settles so that he / she can be present at and available to the institution on a daily basis.


The person who is appointed must comply with the decisions regarding changes that the development of the subject entails and the organizational changes that decisions regarding the university's activities may entail.


The appointment is made on the terms that apply to public officials at all times.
