Job description

 

The assignment has a structural character in the three core activities of tenured academic staff: teaching, research, and services.

  • You will be assigned the following lecturing duties:You will supervise students writing their bachelor’s and master’s theses.

    • Translation German > Dutch 2
    • Translation German > Dutch 3
    • German: Specialised Translation into Dutch: culture and media
    • German: Specialised Translation into Dutch: technical translation
  • You will conduct interdisciplinary research in the domain of Translation Studies and within the German language section.

  • Your research will be in line with the profile and vision of the research group Translation, Interpreting and Intercultural Studies (TricS).

  • You will acquire and manage (national and international) external funding.

  • You are willing to contribute to the development of teaching, research and scientific service (to the wider community) within the department of Applied Linguistics/Translation and Interpreting.

  • You will be required to offer scientific services, both inside (e.g. membership of the Education Board, the Examination Board, etc.) and outside of the university (e.g. Membership of scientific and professional organisations).

 

 Profile and requirements

  • You hold a doctorate degree (PhD) in Translation Studies, Linguistics or Literature (or equivalent) with German as your language of study. A doctorate degree that is focused on translation and translation studies will be considered as an asset.

  • Demonstrable experience with research and/or academic teaching in Translation Studies will be considered as an asset.

  • Demonstrable experience with teaching translation courses (German into Dutch) at an academic level will also be considered as an asset.

  • You are a native speaker of Dutch and have an excellent command of this language, both spoken and written.

  • You have an excellent (near-native) command of German, both spoken and written.

  • An international network within Translation Studies will be considered as an asset.

  • You have several years of postdoctoral experience or equivalent.

  • The focus in your teaching corresponds to the educational vision of the university.

  • Your academic qualities comply with the requirements stipulated in the university’s policy.

  • You have leadership skills (or the potential to develop them).

  • You are quality-orientated, conscientious, creative and cooperative.

 

We offer

  • either a part-time position with a structural assignment as a lecturer, in a temporary appointment in the tenure track for a term of five years. This position will lead to an immediate permanent appointment as a senior lecturer if the performance is assessed favourably on the basis of previously fixed and publicly announced evaluation criteria;

  • or a part-time position with a structural assignment as a senior lecturer or higher, generally entailing a permanent appointment. In the case of a first appointment to the corps of academic personnel (ZAP), the university board may proceed to a temporary appointment for a period not exceeding three years. This position will lead to a permanent appointment if the performance is assessed favourably;

  • the date of appointment will be 1 October 2018;

  • a full-time gross monthly salary ranging for a lecturer from € 4.171,55 - € 6.149,03 and for a senior lecturer from € 4.776,98 - € 7.504,57;

  • a dynamic and stimulating work environment.
