The University of Turku is a world-class multidisciplinary research university which offers interesting challenges and a unique vantage point to national and international research and education.

A University Teacher of English is required by the University of Turku Centre for Language and Communication Studies on a permanent basis commencing 1.8.2018.


The teaching is LSP in nature and multi-faculty. The job includes teaching of all the skills, with a focus on oral communication as well as reading and academic writing skills teaching. In addition, the teacher will be responsible for the development of teaching and materials, administrative tasks related to the teaching and participating in the development of the Centre for Language and Communication Studies.


The ideal candidate must have a Master's degree in a subject related to English language teaching, a high level of teaching ability and be able to both speak and write English to a native-speaker standard.


Additionally, we are looking for a person with experience of university-level LSP teaching, in particular in language centres, an appropriate teaching qualification and the ability to create their own LSP materials. They should be experienced in teaching in a variety of learning environments, both classroom and virtual. They should feel at home with the use of educational technology and be able to use it in the classroom. They should also be willing and ready to take an active part in the working community and in the development of our Centre for Language and Communication Studies. Previous strong experience of teaching reading, academic writing and oral communication skills and an interest in applied linguistic research is desirable.


The salary is defined by the university salary system for teachers/researchers, demand level 4–6 (2 475,31–3 340,77 euros). In addition, there is a work performance level which is determined on the job and can be max. 46,3% of the demand level salary.


There will be a trial period of 4 months.
