Salary


£35550 to £47722 per annum (pro-rata if applicable) depending on skills and experience. Salary progression beyond this scale is subject to performance.


Applications are invited for two posts based at University Park Campus, University of Nottingham.

 

The successful candidates will be required to teach, assess, and administer modules at undergraduate and postgraduate level in ancient Greek history (broadly defined), as well as Greek language modules, and to contribute to other teaching with the Department as directed by its Head; to provide students with pastoral care; to attract research students to study with the candidate for the PhD degree; to conduct outstanding research and to publish and otherwise disseminate the results of that research, and thereby to make a significant contribution to the next Research Excellence Framework and subsequent such assessments; to contribute as requested by the Head of Department to the efficient and harmonious administration of the Department.

 

Candidates must have a PhD successfully completed in a topic connected with ancient Greek history; a record of scholarly publications on ancient Greek history commensurate with the candidate’s career stage and experience; evidence of the ability to make a strong contribution to future REF or other research assessment exercises; the ability to make successful research grant applications; the ability to teach Greek history to undergraduate and postgraduate students; the ability to contribute to the lectures, seminar teaching, and assessment of team-taught modules; the ability to supervise final-year undergraduate dissertations and MA dissertations; the ability to contribute effectively to departmental administration; strong commitment to the Department, especially in terms of collegial approach and presence; the ability to work in a team and independently; excellent interpersonal skills; excellent communication skills; the ability to relate to students in terms of both teaching and pastoral care; and previous teaching experience at Higher Education level. It is desirable for the candidate to have the ability to teach Greek language from beginners’ to advanced level; to have a Higher Education teaching qualification (or to be working towards one); the ability to teach Latin language and literature at any level; previous lecturing experience; previous experience of supervising doctoral students; previous experience of outreach activities.
