Stipendiary Lecturership in Linguistics



St Hugh’s College proposes to appoint a six-hour Stipendiary Lecturer in Linguistics, specialising in Psycholinguistics, with effect from 1 October 2018 until 30 September 2019. This appointment is to fulfil teaching needs arising from sabbatical leave granted to a current postholder, and is non-renewable.


St Hugh’s has one Tutorial Fellow in Linguistics, as well as three Tutorial Fellows in Modern Languages, and Tutorial Fellows in Psychology and in Philosophy. The college aims to admit four undergraduates per year for the Joint Schools in Linguistics with Modern Languages, Psychology, and Philosophy.


The lecturer will be expected to have teaching experience relevant to undergraduate Linguistics. Experience relevant to Prelims Paper 8: General Linguistics, FHS Paper B4: Psycholinguistics, and FHS Paper A: Linguistic Theory in order to give tutorials in these areas is desirable. In addition, the lecturer will be expected to play a full role in the running of Linguistics and its joint schools in the college. There may also be the possibility of additional lecturing, paid on an ad hoc basis by the Faculty of Linguistics, Philology and Phonetics various graduate and undergraduate papers.


The annual stipend for the post will be on a scale currently starting at £13,248 p.a. and will be pensionable.
