The Department of English at the University of California, Berkeley seeks applications for a pool of outstanding lecturers to teach Reading and Composition courses, should openings arise. Screening of applicants is ongoing and will continue as needed.


The pool will remain in place for one calendar year; those interested in remaining in the pool beyond that time must reapply. Positions will be part-time, renewable, non- tenure track. Typically, the Department reviews applications for fall teaching in July, and applications for spring teaching in November and for the summer in April (if applicable). The final date for applicants will be July 1, 2018. The number of positons varies from semester to semester, and appointments may be renewable based on need, funding, and performance.


General duties (included but are not limited to): Teaching Reading and Composition courses offered by the English Department. In addition to classroom responsibilities, general duties include holding office hours, assigning grades, advising students, preparing course materials (e.g., syllabus), and maintaining a course website.


Minimum Basic Qualifications: Completion of all Ph.D. requirements (or equivalent) except dissertation in English Literature or a related field by the time of application.


Additional Qualifications (by start date): Ph.D. (or equivalent) in English Literature or a related field.


Preferred Qualifications: Relevant college-level teaching experience strongly preferred.

Salary: Salary is commensurate with teaching experience. The starting minimum full- time equivalent salary is $52,099 in accordance with the current Unit 18 Lecturer salary scale and its provisions.
