The Faculty of Humanities offers the opportunity of a lectureship for recent graduates. We offer the opportunity to teach in a dynamic academic environment in which new didactic methods are developed and where you will receive support for further career development. The Media and Information and New Media programs are taught in English.     

                                       

The Faculty of Humanities offers experience places for a temporary teaching position for recently graduated, non-promoted teachers. The teaching staff focuses on candidates who wish to acquire teaching experience in an academic environment. During their appointment, the candidates go through a professionalization process that supports them in their professional, didactic and academic development.

 

Job description

 

The ideal candidate would have demonstrable knowledge of the study of New Media and Digital Culture in the humanities, especially in the areas of digital methods and critical internet culture. You will also have strong affinity with the areas of media arts, media history, media theory and social media critique. Up-to-date Internet skills are essential, as is current knowledge of digital culture as evidenced by active participation in online culture. Practical experience in working analytically with online platforms (e.g., Wikipedia, Twitter, Facebook and YouTube) and web-based applications (e.g., wikis) is highly desirable.

 

The new media and digital culture team is part of the Media Studies department and concerns itself with research strategies for the critical study of internet culture. You will teach in the Media and Information BA, in courses concerned with such topics as media theory, new media practice, new media research methods, media history as well as contemporary themes in information and digital culture.   

                         

Together with other lecturers you will participate in a comprehensive introductory programme. You will be supervised closely during the first year of your appointment. Additional didactical training is also part of the appointment. Based on your educational portfolio, previously acquired competences will be taken into consideration.

 

Tasks

  • Preparation and implementation of education at the BA level in Media Studies;

  • keeping track of the literature and integrating new insights into the teaching;

  • supervising and coaching students;

  • grading assignments;

  • contributing to course evaluation.

 

Requirements

  • relevant MA degree, recently obtained (2017 or 2018);

  • experience with digital and audio-visual equipment; affinity with ICT in academic education;

  • capable of teaching at a BA level in Media and Information (especially in courses in New Media and digital culture); some experience in teaching, e.g. as teaching assistant, is a plus;

  • reliable team player;

  • thorough knowledge of English; preferably some knowledge of Dutch.

Appointment

This position is meant for young academics as a working experience. Therefore, the appointment will be on a temporary basis for a period of two years (starting 1 August or 1 September 2018), for 20 to 27 hours a week. The gross monthly salary will range from €2.588 to €4.084 (scale 10), based on a full-time appointment (38 hours a week).The Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities is applicable.
