Research Assistant I/II in the Division of Speech and Hearing Sciences, Faculty of Education (Ref.: 201800549) (to commence as soon as possible for 1 year, with the possibility of renewal subject to satisfactory performance)


Applicants should possess a Bachelor’s degree or above in Psychology, Speech and Hearing Sciences, Statistics, Computer Science, Linguistics, or a related discipline. They should have a good command of written and spoken English and Chinese (Cantonese) with an interest in working amiably with young children. They should also have excellent interpersonal, organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills; a knack for accuracy and attention to details; the ability to work independently and in a team; as well as the ability to prioritize and work under pressure. Those with strong statistics and data analysis skills are preferred.


The appointee will work on two related research projects that examine cognitive and linguistic factors influencing word reading and reading comprehension difficulties in children with developmental dyslexia and/or with Autism Spectrum Disorders. He/She will assist in recruitment, conduct psycholinguistics experiments with school-age children; perform data analysis with R and Mplus; as well as organize parent-teacher workshops and compile results. The appointee will also assist in training undergraduate research volunteers and perform other administrative duties at the Speech, Language and Reading Lab (
