Vacancy Overview
Permanent Position (Part Time) 
18.25 hours (0.5 FTE) 

You will be suitably qualified to teach Portuguese on both the academic and Lifelong Language Learning programmes. You will have teaching experience in higher education, and ideally you will possess a language teaching qualification. You should be able to teach Portuguese language at all levels and will contribute to teaching-related activities, such as materials, assessment and e-learning design. You will also be expected to take on specific administrative responsibilities. 
Job Description

To teach Portuguese modules to students in the Language Centre, and to students on Modern Languages degree programmes, including the BA in Modern Languages and its variants, and Hispanic Studies degree programmes. 


Teaching, learning and assessment 

• Teach Portuguese language effectively at all levels 
• Teach culture and society of relevant countries 
• Set and mark assessment tests and examinations 
• Participate in collective proof-reading and exam-drafting process 
• Participate in second-marking of assessment tests and examinations 
• Set and mark classwork and homework learning tasks in a timely fashion 
• Support the learning of languages beyond the classroom 
• Develop the use of blended learning and e-learning 
• Contribute to the planning of language courses on the various programmes offered by the Language Centre and the SMLC 
• Recommend and advise on the selection of teaching and learning resources 
• Maintain awareness of current research and developments in language teaching 

Teaching-related duties and administration 

• Liaise as necessary with other tutors of the language(s) to be taught 
• Attend staff meetings and other language group meetings as required 
• Ensure module web and Moodle pages are up-to-date and accurate 
• Participate in the registration of students on to the various programmes 
• Respond to difficulties being experienced by students during the module 
• Monitor and report student absences and concerns, and take appropriate action 
• Contribute generally to the effective administration of the academic and professional work of the Language Centre and SMLC 
• Contribute to the planning of language courses on the various programmes offered by the Language Centre and SMLC 
• Promote the teaching of language(s) and the other services of the Language Centre and SMLC 
• Assist with student recruitment activities
