Job description

A permanent position is available at The Department of Special Needs Education, Faculty of Educational Sciences for an Professor/Associate Professor in the subject area of Cognitive hearing science, Language and Communication.


The position will be linked to the subject area of Cognitive Hearing Science, Language andCommunication, dealing with the cognitive and physiological basis of hearing and learning in interaction with technical, educational and general rehabilitation support.


The successful candidate is expected to initiate and lead research, supervise PhD candidates,lead and participate in teaching and in exam setting and assessment at all levels, and to carry out administrative duties in accordance with the needs of the Faculty of Educational Sciences.


Main duties

  • Promote the development of the subject area through research, publication of academic work nationally and internationally, and participation in national and international networks
  • Active participation in relevant research groups at the faculty
  • Participate in the planning of study programs, teaching, supervision and examinations as well as related tasks at any level
  • Research dissemination targeted at both professional actors and the general public
  • Administrative tasks in accordance with the applicable provisions
  • Active participation in attracting research funding from external sources


Qualification requirements

  • Professor: PhD or equivalent academic qualifications with a specialization in the subject area or other areas relevant to Cognitive hearing science. In addition and according to guidelines, an extensive production of academic publications is required. The research must be of high quality and demonstrate academic breadth and depth, and also reflect an independent research profile and show the applicant’s ability to address novel issues
  • Associate Professor: PhD or equivalent academic qualifications with a specialization in the relevant subject area
  • Documented pedagogical skills
  • Documented potential for project acquisition and project management
  • Fluent oral and written communication skills in English
  • Personal suitability and motivation

  • Salary NOK 569 000 - 650 200 per annum depending on qualifications in position as Associate professor(position code 1011)
  • NOK 623 900 - 769 100 per annum depending on qualifications in position as Professor ( position code 1013)

Interviews will be used in the appointment process, and applicants may also be required to give a trial lecture.


Formal regulations

The successful candidate who at the time of appointment cannot document basic teaching qualifications will be required to obtain such qualifications within a two-year period.


The successful candidate must demonstrate mastery of both English and one of the Scandinavian languages as working languages. If an appointee is not fluent in a Scandinavian language, the appointee will be expected within a two-year period to learn sufficient Norwegian to be able to participate actively in all functions the position may involve.
