The Opportunity

The University invites applications from Level D and Level E academics for the new position of Associate Dean (Education), Southeast University-Monash University Joint Graduate School (SEU-Monash JGS).

Monash University is honoured to be the first Australian university to receive a licence to operate in China, one of the world's largest and fastest-growing economies, via the partnership at Suzhou with the Southeast University (SEU), one of China’s key national universities as well as establishment of Monash Suzhou. The SEU-Monash partnership consists of the Joint Research Institute (JRI) and the Joint Graduate School (JGS), and will produce postgraduates and researchers with ideas to change people’s lives in the region, and the world, for the better.

The position of Associate Dean (Education) reports to the Pro Vice-Chancellor and President (Suzhou) with a secondary reporting line to the Deputy Vice-Chancellor and Vice-President (Education), and is responsible for developing, implementing and reviewing graduate and PhD educational initiatives within the SEU-Monash JGS, ensuring high quality educational outcomes for students.

The successful applicant may also be appointed as an Associate Professor or Professor in the faculty most appropriate to the successful candidate’s academic discipline, should their qualifications and experience be in accordance with the required academic standards.

The Associate Dean (Education) appointment will be for an initial period of two years, at a minimum fraction of 0.5 of full time. The position is a full time role and any remaining fraction will be performed in an appropriate faculty, which may include teaching into the planned SEU-Monash JGS Masters by coursework programs of Chemical Engineering or Artificial Intelligence.

The position will be based at a campus of Monash University in Melbourne, Australia, and in Suzhou, China. Frequent travel between both locations is expected, and it is anticipated that up to 70% of the appointee’s time will be spent in Suzhou.

Your application must address the selection criteria. Please refer to How to apply for a senior academic position.

The University reserves the right to appoint by invitation.
