DESCRIPTION

The African American Studies Minor Program (http://af-amstudies.ucsd.edu/) within the Institute of Arts and Humanities (http://iah.ucsd.edu/) at the University of California, San Diego is committed to academic excellence and diversity within the faculty, staff, and student body and invites applications for a part-time lecturer position to teach Introduction to African American Studies (AAS 10) in Spring Quarter 2019. Appointment(s) will be part-time with the possibility of renewal based on performance and funding availability.


Qualified candidates must have a Ph.D. or terminal degree in African American Studies or a Ph.D. or terminal degree from a comparable discipline with a focus on African American history and/or experiences. 
The successful candidate is expected to work with the Program Director and existing faculty members to revise the current structure of the introductory course. The successful candidate must have a history of research, scholarship, and service focused on African Americans in the United States. The candidate should have experience working with K12 or higher education students. The candidate should have three or more years of teaching experience at the undergraduate level.


The Minor Program in African American Studies coordinates a variety of campus offerings related to the lived experiences of African Americans and the legacies of slavery and racism in the United States. Students taking the Introduction to African American Studies course are often students who wish to procure a minor in African American Studies at UCSD. 


Salary is commensurate with teaching experience and is based on University of California salary scales.
