The Department of Art at Vanderbilt University invites applications for a non-tenure track Andrew W. Mellon Assistant Professor in Digital Design position for a three-year term, to begin August 16, 2021. Areas of knowledge and expertise may include but are not limited to current practices in the field of design, such as graphic design, UX/UI design, architecture, industrial and product design, and emerging technologies. Candidates will be able to utilize existing resources and imagine new possibilities for a world class design and media research lab. In the changing nature of higher education, Department of Art at Vanderbilt is invested in rethinking the role of the art and design in contemporary society. The position will chart new territories, will foster experimentation and innovation, and cross fields and disciplines. Ideal candidate will be familiar with the contemporary art discourse, show potential for exceptional research, excellence in teaching, and have an active creative practice. We are seeking candidates to teach both beginning and advanced undergraduate courses in the field of design. Curriculum will be developed in online, hybrid, and in-person learning environments.

Applicants must have received their MFA or Ph.D. no more than four years prior to the start of the position and must have their degree in hand or expected by August 16, 2021.

PREFERABLE SKILLS: Adobe Creative Cloud, HTML and CSS, Graphic design, 2D and 3D motion graphics, User Experience/Web and Interactive Design.

The portfolio may contain up to 20 pages, each page containing documentation for each work. This may include video links and sound files with clearly marked viewing times and conditions if applicable.
