The Institute of Education in Moscow of the Higher School of Economics, Russia invites applications for full-time, tenure-track positions of Assistant Professor in Education and related fields.

 

About the Institute of Education

Institute of Education is a leading Russian think tank and centre for research, training, and professional networking in education with extended international partnership. Institute of Education is also a holder of unique high-quality databases on different levels of education in Russia that are gathered by its research centres and laboratories.

 

Requirements

The general requirements for the tenure track positions are the following:

  • Candidates must hold a PhD in the field Education, Economics, Sociology, Psychology or related areas which was awarded over the last 5 years or received before starting work at the HSE University in a relevant field by an internationally recognized university and has been assessed by external reviewers as having the potential to pursue research that is publishable in leading peer-reviewed journals;
  • Teaching experience at leading foreign universities is desirable;
  • Experience in preparing publications in WoS and Scopus Q1-Q2 journals;
  • Knowledge of Russian is not required as research and teaching are both conducted in English. Therefore, fluent English is obligatory.

 

The successful candidate is expected to conduct high-quality research publishable in reputable peer-reviewed journals with research support provided by the University.

 

Participants are encouraged to pursue their own research along with working on Institute’s research projects in following areas:

  • Instructional design (problem solving in online learning environments; AI supported collaborative learning; cognitive load and learner’s behaviour) (International Laboratory of Research and Design in elearning)
  • Well-being in education (of the school students, school teachers and school principals (both personal and professional), school students’ parents, and university students and teachers), including its negative aspects (low well-being) like educational anxiety, stress, burnout, bullying (including bullying towards school teachers) etc. (Centre for Modern Childhood Research andPinsky Centre of General and Extracurricular Education)
  • Adult learning and education in Universities in context of management for ALE-programs developing (Lifelong Learning Laboratory)
  • Merging vocational and higher education (vocationalization of higher education, tertiarization of vocational education, pathways & institutional transformation, and the education–work nexus) (Centre for Skills Development and Vocational Education)
  • Psychometrics and artificial intelligence (development of innovative assessment tools, complex constructs, new task formats, new technologies, psychometric modeling, automatic item generation, automated essay scoring, automated feedback generation, assessment design etc.) (Centre for Psychometrics and Measurement in Education)
  • Students’ agency and co-agency in education, self-regulation and social regulation of learning in different age and different educational environments, practices of autonomy support  and control in school and family (Centre for Modern Childhood Research)
  • Higher education studies (contribution of higher education to individuals, economics and society; economics and sociology of higher education institutions; аcademic profession) (Laboratory for University Development)
  • and more

 

Conditions

Tenure track positions are only available on a full-time, residential basis.

Overall, appointments are usually made for an initial three-year period (starting September 2026) and, upon successful completion of an interim review, contracts are normally extended for a further three years until the tenure review.
