The School of Education is looking to appoint an Assistant Professor (Research) in Education, fixed term for a period 12 months (with the possibility of extension to 23 months)


Expertise and experience of using quantitative research methods in large scale projects within the social or health sciences will be required. This post would suit a self-motivated and talented individual who can deliver high-quality research and has a successful record of securing funding for new work, which would build upon the School of Education’s strong research reputation. We would expect the post-holder to have a publication record and to contribute to writing academic papers based on projects from across the team.


The post will involve negotiating with funders and external partners regarding project design, research methodology and funding levels. It will also involve dealing with any problems that may affect the achievement of research objectives and deadlines in a considered, timely and cost effective manner.

The successful candidate will require strong knowledge and experience of research methodology ideally in the field of education evaluation, and will possess good project management skills as well as successful track record of securing funding for research projects. They will be expected to possess a mature and flexible approach, be able to work independently, prioritising their own workload.

The contract will be full-time and mainly office-based within the Research Hub of the School of Education (RHoSE) but will involve with some travel including occasional overnight trips.


The post holder is considered to be an independent researcher and research will be focused on research on the University’s ‘Research Track’ career path, which provides clearly defined opportunities for progression against defined criteria.
