Assistant Professor in English Language and Communication


The Department of Language and Communication invites applications for a position as Assistant Professor in English Language and Communication. The person appointed will be expected to take up the post from 1st February 2020 or as soon as possible thereafter.

Applicants must have a Ph.D. degree and research qualifications within one or more of the following areas relating to English: global communication, digital communication, second language learning and literacy, organizational communication. Applicants are asked to specify clearly in their application how they will contribute to the further development of the Department’s research profile, and which of the departmental research centres or groups they consider relevant to their own research. In addition to research, duties will include teaching and developing courses at BA and MA levels, as well as supervising student projects and dissertations. It is expected that the successful applicant will cover teaching requirements on all the Department’s relevant degree programmes at the university campus in Odense. (BA and MA programmes in English Studies, International Business Communication as well as Business, Language and Culture). Applicants are asked to specify how they will contribute to the teaching profiles of the Department and are required to submit a teaching portfolio that covers teaching experience, approaches to teaching and learning, and any pedagogical training. Applicants must be able to document experience of teaching through the medium of English and are expected to have at the minimum relevant MA qualifications relating to the nature and use of the English language. 

A knowledge of Danish is preferable. If relevant, the successful applicant will be expected to master the Danish language at a level which enables reading administrative documents within 3 years.

Application, salary, etc.
The successful applicant will be employed in accordance with the agreement between the Ministry of Finance and AC (the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations), Cirkulære om overenskomst for Akademikere i staten 2019 (the document only exists in Danish).


An assistant professorship is a 3-year position. Employment stops automatically by the end of the period. It applies for all positions that they will only cover teaching requirements from related areas, including interdisciplinary teaching activities and Cand. Negot. courses. To qualify for the position you must have completed a PhD-degree by the application deadline. An application must include:

  • Certificates/Diplomas

  • Information on previous teaching experience, please attach as Teaching portfolio

  • List of publications indicating the publications attached

  • Up to 3 of the most relevant publications. Please attach one pdf-file for each publication. For any publication with a co-author, a co-author statement must be submitted as part of the pdf-file

Application and all appendices must be in English. Please always include a copy of original diploma/certificates.  We only accept files in pdf-format no more than 10 MB per file. In case you have more than one file per field you need to combine the pdf-files into a single file, as each field handles only one file. We do not accept zip-files, jpg or other image files. All pdf-files must be unlocked and allow binding and may not be password protected.

Applications will be assessed by an assessment committee and the applicant will receive the part of the evaluation that concerns him/her. The assessment report will subsequently be forwarded to the Head of Department who will assemble an appointments committee. An interview may form part of the overall assessment of the applicants’ qualifications.   The committee may request additional information, and if so, it is the responsibility of the applicant to provide the necessary material.

If the application does not meet the requirements mentioned above, the Faculty of Humanities may reject your application without further notice. Applications received after the deadline will neither be considered nor evaluated.
