We seek a candidate who specializes in medieval literature and culture. We are interested in a candidate whose work complements our department’s practice of cutting across national, period, and methodological divides, and who considers medieval England as a multicultural and multilingual culture. Especially desirable would be a candidate whose work speaks to such areas of shared interest in the department as critical and cultural theory, history of media, eco-criticism, mind studies, transnational perspectives, gender/sexuality/queer studies, critical race studies, and contemporary medievalisms. The ideal candidate would be able to teach a range of courses and contribute to the department’s Medieval Literatures specialization, and enhance the strength of UCSB’s interdisciplinary Medieval Studies Program. Position begins effective July 1, 2019.


Applicants are expected to have completed all requirements for a Ph.D. (or equivalent) in English (or a related field), except the dissertation (or equivalent) at the time of application. However, a PhD dissertation in the field relating to medieval literature and culture must be completed at time of appointment. Shortlisted candidates may be asked for a Ph.D. dissertation by the committee.
