DescriptionVanderbilt University seeks applications for an Assistant Professor of the Practice specializing in technical direction effective August 16, 2021. This is a non-tenure-track position for a three-year term and is renewable based on performance and programmatic need. Responsibilities include hiring, training, and supervising student scene shop and properties staff, estimating costs and labor for each set design prior to construction, supervising construction of all VUTheatre production scenery and properties, and teaching Fundamentals of Production each semester. Additional duties include maintaining tools and training students in their safe use and working with other university offices to address safety in the theatre. Teaching load is 3-3 with a four-course reduction for technical direction of four productions, bringing the total course load to 1-1. The starting salary for this position is $65,000. The successful candidate will have experience teaching undergraduates at a variety of skill levels in the classroom and in the scene shop, be expected to do professional work outside of Vanderbilt, and will have an MFA in technical direction or a related field in hand by August 16, 2021.
