Call for applications for Assistant Professor in Violin

Description:
Seeking a full-time professor in classical violin to start in the Fall of 2023. Qualifications include an exhibited track record of success teaching one-on-one studio or private instruction in violin at the university or conservatory level, at minimum a Master’s degree or equivalent in Violin Performance, and significant professional solo, chamber music, and orchestra performance experience. Instruction is at the university undergraduate level for violin performance majors.

Preferred qualifications include a Master’s of Music degree in the area of Violin Performance, an Artist’s Diploma, or a Doctor of Musical Arts degree with a focus on violin and strings; mastery of common and advanced practices in violin performance including early to contemporary repertoire for violin; a visible and significant record of activity as a professional violinist and chamber musician; and a proven record of recruiting students to the program. A record of a positive and successful teaching at the college-level for a minimum of three years is of paramount importance. Candidates with performing, teaching, and research interests outside the standard western canon and who are able to teach courses in those areas are especially welcome.

Duties of the instructor include teaching weekly, individual 50-minute lessons for violin undergraduate and graduate students, participation in annual auditions process, recruitment efforts within the department, completion of mandatory online training (required by the University), and other duties as required.

In-person instruction anticipated, and is subject to safety policy governed by the State of California and Cal/OSHA.

If the candidate does not include the signed authorization to release information with the application materials, the application will be considered incomplete. As with any incomplete application, the application will not receive further consideration. Although all applicants for faculty recruitments must complete the entire application, only finalists (i.e., those to whom the department or other hiring unit would like to extend a formal offer) considered for Ladder Rank Professor or Professor of Teaching series, at all ranks (i.e., assistant, associate, and full) positions will be subject to institutional reference checks.
