Assistant Professor of ArtsSchool of Cinematic Arts Faculty Los Angeles, California The Division of Media Arts + Practice within the School of Cinematic Arts at the University of Southern California seeks an adjunct faculty member to teach a four-unit 200-level undergraduate course titled “IML 230: Fundamentals of Visual Design.” This course integrates history, theory, and practice to offer an introduction to the principles of visual and graphic design within the field of media art. Students learn foundational concepts, theories and technical skills in the use of applications in the Adobe Creative Suite, including Illustrator, After Effects, and InDesign.The course also offers instruction in the creative process and the visual designer’s workflow for conceptualizing and producing visual media, and introduces students to the many career directions for media designers. The ideal instructor should be familiar with the tools, theories, concepts, and key ideas for graphic design in order to provide students with a critical understanding of the foundational elements of design, while also teaching hands-on skills, project workflows, and creative process.
Minimum education: Bachelor’s degree Minimum experience: 5+ years of graphic design Preferred education: Master’s in media-related discipline Preferred experience: Teaching undergraduate students
The core salary range for this position is $30 - $45 per hour. This is a 25%-time adjunct position.
