Date Posted: November 10, 2025 DescriptionThe Department of Social Justice Education (SJE) at the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education (OISE), University of Toronto, invites applications for a full-time tenure-stream position in Indigenous Studies and Social Justice Education. The appointment will be at the rank of Assistant Professor, with an anticipated start date of July 1, 2026. Applicants must have earned a PhD, EdD, or equivalent doctoral degree with a focus on Indigenous Studies and Education or a closely related field by the time of appointment or shortly thereafter. Candidates must demonstrate a record of excellence in both research and teaching and be able to complement and strengthen the department’s existing research and teaching profile. The successful candidate is expected to pursue innovative, independent research and establish a competitive, externally funded research program. Indigenous Self-Identification and ScopePreference will be given to candidates who self-identify as Indigenous. For the purposes of this search—aligned with U of T’s Response to the Truth and Reconciliation Commission—“Indigenous” encompasses the peoples of Turtle Island (First Nations, Métis, Inuk/Inuit, Alaska Native, Native American, Native Hawaiian). Candidates identifying as Indigenous from other global contexts should clarify their relationship to specific Indigenous communities. Research and Teaching FocusWe seek a scholar with expertise in Indigenous Studies as they relate to Social Justice Education, with emphasis on decolonial and anti-racist approaches.
